Your Lemosho adventure begins on the quiet western slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, where ancient forests breathe mist and sunlight filters softly through thick canopies. This route offers a slow, natural rhythm, the perfect pace to feel the mountain’s character unfold beneath your feet. As you ascend from forest to moorland and cross the vast Shira Plateau, the landscape widens, revealing distant glaciers and the silent majesty of Africa’s highest summit.

Every day brings a new sense of wonder: dramatic ridgelines, towering lava formations, glowing sunsets over endless plains, and the crisp, star-filled nights that make the mountain feel alive. With excellent acclimatization and fewer crowds, Lemosho is a journey of beauty, confidence, and connection, a route chosen by climbers who want both challenge and serenity.

By the time you stand at Uhuru Peak, watching the first light touch Africa from above the clouds, you’ll know this climb was not just a trek, but a deeply personal experience — a quiet, powerful victory earned step by step.

Tour Plan

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania – Transfer to Hotel & Pre-Climb Briefing

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you are warmly welcomed by our mountain team and transferred to your lodge in Arusha/Moshi. After settling in, your lead guide meets you for a full equipment check and safety briefing. You will discuss the route, weather expectations, and the summit strategy.

Accommodation: Hotel in Arusha/Moshi.

Day 2: Lemosho Gate (2,100 m) – Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,820 m)

After breakfast, drive to the western side of Kilimanjaro where the Lemosho Gate welcomes you with misty forest air and colobus monkey calls. After park registration, begin trekking under a lush rainforest canopy. This is a gentle but steady ascent through thick vegetation and rich birdlife.

Hiking: 3–4 hours

Accommodation: Mti Mkubwa Camp.

Day 3: Mti Mkubwa – Shira 1 Camp (3,500 m)

Leave the forest behind as the trail climbs steeply into the heather and moorland zone. The landscape opens dramatically, offering the first wide views over the Shira Plateau. The air becomes cooler and the vegetation more sparse.

Hiking: 5–6 hours

Accommodation: Shira 1 Camp.

Day 4: Shira 1 – Shira 2 Camp (3,850 m)

Today is a shorter and easier trek across the Shira Plateau, one of Kilimanjaro’s most iconic geological features. The path is gentle, allowing your body time to acclimatize. Optional afternoon acclimatization hikes are offered for additional elevation gain.

Hiking: 3–4 hours

Accommodation: Shira 2 Camp.

Day 5: Shira 2 – Lava Tower (4,600 m) – Barranco Camp (3,900 m)

A key acclimatization day. Begin with a steady ascent toward Lava Tower, a striking volcanic formation at 4,600 m. After lunch near the tower, descend to Barranco Camp, located in a scenic valley below the Breach Wall. This “climb high, sleep low” routine greatly improves your summit success.

Hiking: 6–7 hours

Accommodation: Barranco Camp.

Day 6: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp (4,050 m)

Start with the exciting scramble up Barranco Wall, a non-technical but rewarding climb with stunning panoramas. Continue through ridges and valleys with magical views of Kibo’s southern glaciers. Arrive at Karanga Camp early for rest and hydration.

Hiking: 4–5 hours

Accommodation: Karanga Camp.

Day 7: Karanga – Barafu Camp (4,680 m)

The trail ascends through alpine desert terrain toward Barafu, your basecamp for the summit attempt. The air is noticeably thinner and colder. After an early dinner, rest as much as possible. You will begin your summit push around midnight.

Hiking: 3–4 hours

Accommodation: Barafu Camp.

Day 8: Summit Day – Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) – Mweka Camp (3,100 m)

Your summit attempt begins in the quiet hours of the night. Step by step, with headlamps lighting the path, you ascend to Stella Point (5,756 m) just before sunrise. Continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.

After celebrating and taking photos, descend to Barafu for a short rest before continuing to Mweka Camp for your final night on the mountain.

Hiking: 10–14 hours

Accommodation: Mweka Camp.

Day 9: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Transfer to Hotel

Descend through the rainforest where warm, moist air and thick vegetation return. At Mweka Gate, you receive your official summit certificates before being driven back to your hotel for a hot shower and well-deserved rest.

Accommodation: Hotel in Arusha/Moshi.
